Ray Harding was born in Idaho and grew up in the San Francisco bay area. He studied art at San Jose City College and graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
While attending San Jose City College, Ray studied under Ray Oescher and Joe Zerker, master printmaker, and worked with all mediums including oils, acrylics, ceramics, and print making. During his residency at San Francisco State University, Ray also studied with some of the bay area’s most renowned fine artists including Bob Bechtle, Richard McLean, and John Elly.
During this early period, Ray won awards in both local and national competitions for his mixed media paper airplane series which was also showcased in numerous juried exhibitions at the San Jose Museum of Art and various galleries in the San Fransico bay area. After taking a 20 year hiatus from his art to raise a family, in 1997 he began drawing and painting again. Over the past 10+ years, while working full time, Ray has completed works of art that have been accepted in juried competitions in Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Ojai. He has also won awards for his work and is a participant in the annual Ojai Art B-Tour.
