Ray Harding Fine Art

It's about passion, discovery, and imagination©

While I'm not much of a writer (but I can use Spell Check with the best of them) I find myself wanting to say a few things about my inspiration and approach to my own work.  I am inspired by two artists, Vincent van Gogh and Wayne Thiebaud.

The brush strokes and textures of Vincent are a wonder to behold.  They are a gift to all of us from and incredible but frustrated visionary who viewed and communicated his simple surroundings in profound ways.  If you get the chance, take a look at his drawings too.

Some of you may not have heard of Wayne Thiebaud.  Wayne's work first blew me away when I attended a show of his at Stanford University as a high school student.  He uses colors like no other artist.  From a distance, his work seems somewhat controlled but as you approach, it explodes in colors not normally associated with the object.  Wow.

As for my acrylic paintings, I love using strong vibrant colors, heavy paint and brush strokes, and subjects that are not ordinarily used.  Thank you Vincent and Wayne.

Works completed on canvas and heavy gage Bristol Board.
